Today was the day the newest group of LGS'ers, (Class 34)
started our 9 month commitment to the community, and each other. Not knowing
exactly what to expect, whom we would encounter or what kind of projects we
were getting ourselves into, I think it felt a bit like the first day of school
for all of us!
Today’s meeting took place in the Board Room at the Chamber of Commerce. Diana Greene, Executive Director of LGS, worked her way thru the
agenda and introduced us to many key players of the organization who were all
previous LGS’ers themselves. After listening to all of these people speak, it
was refreshing to learn how good of friends they all became through this
process and we were all hoping for the same within our class.
But, as with all things LGS, in addition to all of this
“work” we also had the opportunity to “play.” Jeffrey Wisniewski (Class 31)
from Carolina Improv helped loosen us up and get comfortable around each other.
In addition to improv/one-liner games and a (very awkward!) observation
exercise, we were also able to give ourselves superhero names and toss around
an invisible ball…not too bad for the first day of class!
The day concluded with a Wine & Cheese reception in the
Chamber lobby, which was graciously hosted by the LGS Board of Regents. Each of us left today with a binder full of
information to digest, a day full of memories and 30+ new friends.
